Being that I listen to The Weeknd and RL Grime, it’s pretty crazy for me to even muster the fact that I have slept on Tory Lanez music for so long. The 22 year old Canadian born is no amateur to the business. Tory Lanez is setting the stage for Toronto’s rap scene in raw fashion, he’s one of the first Canadian artists to be signed to an American label.
Tory Lanez describes himself as “swavey” which is his definition of the ability to have fluidity with many genres of music , fusing this gap has been part of his repertoire. He’s one of the few artists to construct music so naturally in that way. Since being discovered by Sean Kingston back in 2010, he’s worked with artists such as Meek Mill on the song “Lord Knows” and G- Eazy. With this, he has had a string of well – acknowledged albums such as 2014’s Lost Cause album and now being signed to Mad Love Records by Benny Blanco he released his first single “Say It” off of his 2016 anticipated album while not leaving fans hanging releasing Chixtape 3 and New Toronto simultaneously back in December as a little holiday treat.
In essence, Lanez is one of few creatives that are relatable in that he doesn’t yearn to be like everyone else. Taking things in stride and embracing your differences sets you apart from others to really hone in on individuality. This really comes to fruition in his music which is delightful.
