Will Young leaving Sony To Join Island Records

Will Young has revealed that he is to move away from Sony Music after ten years with the label.

In the closing paragraphs of his autobiography ‘Funny Peculiar’, released on October 11, Young wrote:

“I think I’m at a crossroads. My album deal is up and as I write I’m in the process of signing to Island Records. I’m more excited about my music than ever.”

In 2002, Young was the winner of the inaugural series of Pop Idol, the popular TV format that was to be succeeded in the market by The X Factor after two series.

His debut single Anything Is Possible/Evergeen became the fastest-selling debut single in the UK and he went on to release six albums in 10 years through Sony Music that all achieved platinum status in the UK – the biggest-selling of which was 2003’s Friday’s Child which was certified 5 times platinum in the UK.
