Ne-Yo on Rylan’s Music Career: “In his space, he will sell records – I’d definitely write for him”

Ne-Yo recently spoke with choice fm on the burning topic of X-Factor hopeful, Rylan.

Everybody knows – including Rylan – that he is not the strongest singer. Rylan is what you would call a character,” Ne-Yo told London’s Choice Radio.

“Not all music is about how well somebody sings. You can’t tell me that every song you’ve ever played on this station, you’ve played because the vocalist was just incredible.

“I dug the fact he was genuine about who he was – he’s not putting [it] on. That’s really who he is. I’m a singer, but I’m also senior vice-president of A&R for Motown Records. So I’m an executive as well.”

Ne-Yo, who accompanied Nicole Scherzinger at Judges’ Houses and saw Clark performing there, continued: “I have to understand that just because I wouldn’t personally rock it in my car doesn’t mean that there’s not a place for it in the music industry. Some music is just about having fun.

“In the case of Rylan, it’s about people that make you feel something. You don’t listen to Rylan for his voice – you look at him for his entertainment.”

Ne-Yo added that he would be interested in writing a dance track for him, saying: “In his space, he will sell records – or at least singles.

“He’s going to come out with that dance record that’s going to annoy the hell out of some people, but others will love it. I don’t know about featuring on one of his singles, but I’d definitely write one for him.
