Google’s interactive TV service will be made available outside of the US for the first time thanks to a partnership between the tech giant and Sony as it prepares for a UK launch in July.
Google TV’s set-top box allows users to browse the internet through their television and access a range of specially designed apps. It will cost around £200.
“Entertainment content is available through so many channels and sites, and Google TV helps consumers easily find what they want to watch, listen to or play with the freedom of the internet and using the familiar Chrome search engine technology,” said Gildas Pelliet, Sony’s European head of marketing.
A Blu-ray version of the device is expected to cost around £300 and both devices will be controlled by a double-sided remote with full QWERTY keyboard or a smartphone.
News of the Google music and entertainment system first arose in February, when The Wall Street Journal said that the new device will be able to connect to new Google-made speakers, allowing users to download music and then stream their tracks wirelessly to any room in their house.
