Afro Beats: Introducing May7ven

ADTV introduces you to Afro beats starlet May7ven

May7ven is one of the first Afro beats artists to have an African song playlisted on London based radio
station Choice fm. Her single Ten Ten along with D’Banj’s Oliver Twist and P-Square’s Chop My Money where recently added the stations playlist. We all know that D’Banj is a major star in Africa who has sold out shows and signed a deal with Kanye West. Multi platinum selling twins P-Square have toured the
world and recently got signed by rapper Akon… but who is this May7ven?

Yemisi Odegbami, professionally known as May7ven, is a 27 year old British singer, songwriter, dancer,
model and entrepreneur. For many people May7ven is a new unknown artist but in fact she has a vast amount of experience in the industry. In 2008 she released her debut single Hands Up which unfortunately didn’t quite make the impact hoped for. Since then she has worked as a songwriter, provided backing vocals and started several business including a magazine publication ‘Urban Links’, a real estate firm and a consultancy providing back up singers and dancers for record companies. Basically May7ven has pretty much done it all. Now it is her time to shine by herself as an artist. In the past she described her style as ‘Afr&b’ as she blends African music with R&B.

As an artist May7ven has performed at the Hammersmith Apollo at D’Banj’s Koko Concert, the Afrobeats Festival (with Wizkid and P-Square) and also at the Idols West Africa live show. Her energetic and catchy single Ten Ten is due to be officially released on May 7th so she might just be the first Afro beats artist to chart in the UK. Keep an eye out for this lady as she gives the guys in Afro beats some much need competition.
